What is your style?
As I mention in my philosophy, I specialise in natural wedding films.
I see filmmaking as a process with many layers.
I believe your wedding film should be more than a collection of shots; it should tell your story. I want to capture all of the emotions you felt on your special day so you can re-live them again and again.
My style of filming is best described as observational. I’m unobtrusive, yet well positioned to capture the big and small moments as they naturally unfold.
How many people are filming?
My wife Gracie and I work together on a wedding day. There's plenty of times throughout the day where we are both filming, and there are also times where we assist each other in various ways. After countless weddings together we have a finely tuned system.
What happens on the day?
Our observational approach means you’ll barely notice us. We move around in the background, but we’re always in the right place at the right time to capture your special moments. However, if you’re feeling a little unsure we’re happy to provide some natural direction when required.
How many hours of coverage do I need?
I’ve found between 8 and 9 hours of coverage is perfect for almost every wedding. This takes you from preparations right through to the dance floor. Extra hours of coverage are available also.
If you’re having a particularly early ceremony let me know and we can discuss options.
Can I have the raw footage?
I provide The Rough Cut film in both of my packages. This is a large collection of raw footage, presented in short, continuous clips.
We move around in the same way as a photographer, taking short clips from many different perspectives. The Rough Cut allows you to see many additional moments from your day, just the way they happened.
I don’t provide ALL of the raw footage, as there’s often a lot of footage that occurs in between what is usable, but don’t worry, you’re not missing out on any of the good bits!
Do you film the ceremony in full?
This isn't something I offer, however, rest assured the main elements of your ceremony are captured, including your wedding vows, walking down the aisle and your first kiss. You'll see even more from your ceremony in The Rough Cut as well.
I want your wedding film to feel organic, meaning I’ll always be moving and reacting to what is unfolding, not stationed in the same place.
While I think there’s a place for full ceremony edits and continuous coverage, it’s not the way I like to tell a story. If I committed to filming your entire ceremony, it would detract from my creative ability to observe, scan and look for key moments.
...what about our wedding vows, speeches and first dance?
Yes, definitely. Your wedding vows, speeches and first dance are captured in full and included on your USB for both of my packages.
Do you capture drone footage?
Drone footage can look amazing. I’m not anti-drone; however, it’s not particularly my style. First and foremost, my focus is human interaction and capturing emotions. I’d hate to miss an important moment of your day because I’m busy fiddling around with a drone. Again, they can look great, but I don’t find them helpful in telling your story.
How do you choose the music?
As your films are often shared online, there’s a necessity to use licensed music. I have access to many great songs and I choose from this range.
I am very particular about selecting music as it all feeds back into the storytelling process. My process for selecting music involves a number of factors, including how I can best communicate the emotion from a particular moment, who you are as a couple and what works best with the footage I’ve captured.
Do you offer photography?
I don’t offer photography, but I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing photographers who have a similar natural style. You'll find recommendations here.
Can we catch-up?
Absolutely! I’m located in South Yarra and am more than happy to have a mid-week coffee or drink.
Alternatively I’m happy to chat via FaceTime, Skype or even a good old-fashioned phone call. You can reach me on 0402 306 995.
I look forward to hearing from you.
